Thank you so much to everyone who auditioned!

Our show dates are October 17-20. We unfortunately can NOT share actors with Mamma Mia! or The Wolves. Additionally, please reach out to us if you are considering taking a role in our show and another show and are at all concerned about overlapping rehearsals; we can talk to the other production and figure out how we can make it work for you.

Due to the time crunch of putting this show up in just over a month, this production will put special emphasis on being off-book quickly. We will distribute all scripts and scores at our first rehearsal on Friday, September 13, and we are asking all characters to be off-book within three weeks - by Friday, October 4.

Big Alison

Alison aged 43. With Small Alison and Medium Alison, one of the three leads of the show. Singing required. She acts as the narrator throughout. Themes of self-reflection, grief and loss, humor, and irony.
Medium Alison

Alison aged 19, in college. With Small Alison and Big Alison, one of the three leads of the show. Singing required. Medium Alison picks up the thread of Small Alison's themes of self-discovery as she understands and explores her sexuality for the first time. Also involves themes of self-discovery, coming of age, rebellion, and forming and re-forming core relationships with family and a significant other as people mature and change.

* Important: Medium Alison (along with Joan) uses the d-slur at one point in the script. We will have a larger conversation as a cast about the reasons for its place in the script, but the actor signing for Medium Alison should know and understand that it is there and part of the role. Alison aged 9. With Medium Alison and Big Alison, one of the three leads of the show. Singing required. Themes of self-discovery and coming-of-age as at a young age she begins to uncover her own personality and understand her family.

Alison's father. Major supporting character. Singing required. Enigmatic character struggling with his own sexuality in the context of his roles as a husband and father in the Bechdel family.

* This character's arc delves deeply into issues of mental health and suicidality, and the actor portraying Bruce must be comfortable exploring those issues onstage, in consultation with the directors and any outside resources we employ. Please reach out to the directors if you have any concerns or questions! *

Alison's mother. Major supporting character. Singing required. Feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, while trying to keep her family together, define large aspects of her character arc. Preferably plays some piano.

Joan

Joan, a college student, is Medium Alison's first college love interest. Defines the term "counterculture." This role doubles as a female ensemble role in the song "Raincoat of Love." Minimal singing required.

The Bechdel kids, aged 6 and 10, are Small Alison's two siblings. Some singing required. These roles provide actors an opportunity to be deeply involved with the cast and the production with a smaller time commitment.

Roy

Roy is a babysitter and yard guy for the Bechdel family who also serves as a love interest for Bruce. The actor playing Roy will also play various ensemble roles within the show. Singing required.
