Cruising Altitude Callbacks

All callbacks will be Sunday, February 3rd in the Loeb Dance Studio. The following is a synopsis of the show, and if you have any questions about the plot of the show or procedure at callbacks please let us know via email. Also, you should receive an email around 10:30 which will have audio tracks of the songs you will be singing as well as sheet music.

Cruising Altitude follows Peter and Jenny, a newly college-graduated couple who have been dating for about five years and do almost everything together, as they fly to London for a biology research conference at which they will present the joint research they have been working on for several years. Peter also plans to propose to Jenny on their trip. Unfortunately, when they board the plane, Peter’s bag goes missing — with the engagement ring inside — so he asks Jenny to help him question their fellow travelers about where it might have gone. Before long, the process leads to a series of interrogations which bring the rest of the passengers into the action and bring up some concerns about the pair’s relationship.

Meanwhile, a flight attendant named Joanne attempts to survive her first day on the job, floundering under the pressure from her experienced (jaded) supervisors, Mary and Carrie. These two women worry that Joanne’s missteps might cost Mary a long-awaited promotion. On the plane as well are Monica and her sons, Josh (*) and Zach (*), as well as Ken and his daughter Sophie (*). As Monica tries desperately to keep her rowdy children under control, Ken struggles to see eye to eye with a daughter reluctant to commit to the business school he has in mind for her. Also coming together in this strange sequence of events are Edward (*), an ambitious politician, and Elvis, an elderly hippie, with pilots Harry (*) and Larry (*) blissfully unable of the chaos in the cabin.

Eventually, Peter identifies a primary suspect, a jazz pianist named Skyler to whom Jenny has become close over the course of the investigation. In the second act, it is decided that Skyler will stand trial for the theft of the bag. Despite their lack of legitimacy, the legal proceedings force budding conflicts to a head and cause the eccentric cast to leave it all on the “courtroom” floor. By the time they land at Heathrow, everyone aboard North East Flight 2460 has finally said what’s on their minds and has a better appreciation of where they are in their lives.
