9 to 5: The Musical Callbacks

Thank you so much for auditioning for 9 To 5! Our team was so impressed by all of the talent that we saw this week!

DANCE CALL: Please note that not being called back doesn't mean that you will not be cast as we are calling back for limited roles! Accordingly: PLEASE come to our OPEN dance call TODAY (Feb 1st) from 12-2 PM in Farkas 303 (elevator-accessible space)! This is mandatory for anyone called back and encouraged for all auditionees. Please wear clothes and shoes that you are comfortable moving in, and bring water! No dance experience is necessary! If you were called back and unable to attend dance call, please reach out to our directors (Riley Jackson & Mia Schenenga) and stage manager (Megan Degenhardt) ASAP for an asynchronous option.

CALLBACKS: Character-specific callbacks will take place TODAY (Feb 1st) from 2-5 PM in Farkas 203 and TOMORROW (Feb 2nd) from 10 AM-5 PM in Farkas 203. Character information is provided below, and all materials for callbacks (vocal selections and sides) can be accessed in this folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1HIPPBed6L-SgGDmwMoALaNhx3Ea5exLg?usp=sharing. All vocal excerpts will be taught in callbacks, but we highly recommend reviewing them in advance. Please be sure to arrive ten minutes early to each callback.

For the roles of Violet, Doralee, and Judy, there will be second-round callbacks on Sunday. This information and relevant materials will be sent via email on Saturday night.

If you have ANY conflicts at all with your callbacks, please reach out IMMEDIATELY to our stage manager, Megan Degenhardt. If you have overlapping callbacks with another HRDC show, please include both shows’ stage manager(s) in your email so that we can coordinate with each other.

VIOLET is a smart, efficient, widowed mother of a teenage son who is constantly being passed up for promotion in the boys’-club world of climbing the corporate ladder. She runs the office from her desk while her boss takes the credit. She is frustrated with her position, but not bitter. Witty, strong, ambitious, with strong comedic timing.

DORALEE is Franklin Hart’s secretary, and is misunderstood due to rumors about an affair with him. She’s a southern belle who is good-natured but a spitfire, proof there is more to a woman than just her looks.

**PLEASE NOTE: Doralee's songs and sides should be prepared in a Southern accent.

JUDY is a housewife with her first foray into the working world when her husband runs off with his secretary. A bit insecure, determined, and hopeful—Judy changes throughout the play into a force to be reckoned with.

FRANKLIN HART is one of the firm's executives. He is capable of faking charm but usually shows his true colors as an arrogant, self-absorbed boss. Sexist, Egotistical, Lying, Hypocritical, Bigot.
