We want to sincerely thank every single actor who auditioned for The Penningtons this week! We loved watching and getting to know you all and we greatly appreciate the thoughtfulness and efforts everyone brought to the audition process.

Our finalized cast list is below with some brief information about each character. If you were not cast, but are interested in joining our staff, please reach out to our producers Lollie and Kathleen.

The shows for The Penningtons are October 17 through October 20 at the Loeb Ex. Our residency begins October 7 and goes until strike is completed after the last show, which is mandatory for all cast. Our rehearsal process will begin this Friday, September 13, with a readthrough from 6 to 8 pm. If you have an immovable conflict with the readthrough, please inform our stage manager Hugo IMMEDIATELY. That said, please note that since our residency is so early in the semester, we can accommodate conflicts only to a limited degree in our rehearsal schedule, especially as we get closer to residency. During residency, it is expected that cast and staff are ready to move other conflicts to make time for tech rehearsals.

You must be able to attend all show dates to sign for your character. Show dates and times are:
Thursday, October 17th at 8pm
Friday, October 18th at 8pm 
Saturday, October 19th at 2 pm
Saturday, October 19th at 8 pm
Sunday, October 20th at 2 pm

Due to overlapping residencies, we cannot share actors with the following shows: Krapp’s Last Tape, Spurned. Further, actors cast as Fitch, Daniel, Char, or Father cannot be shared with The Human Comedy. If you would like to sign for any other show, you must reach out to the stage managers and directors of BOTH shows first.

Because this show takes place in the Loeb Drama Center, all actors MUST read the TECH REQ REQUIREMENTS and SIGN UP FOR A TECH REQ at this link: go.hrdctheater.org/s24techreqs before signing for a role.

Please note that when you sign for a show, the system does not automatically reject other roles. You must reject those roles manually.

CHAR

CHAR is the only daughter and is struggling to grieve her deceased mother; she copes by speaking to her through songs and doing anything to connect with her, including taking up an interest in fashion design; she struggles deeply with grief, death, and lack of meaning

FITCH is the ex-golden boy whose gambling addiction and scandalous affairs have ostracized him from his family, and he longs to escape his life; the narrator of the show

James Farr

DANIEL is the eldest child, who craves power and will obtain it by any means necessary–including murdering his dying father to become the CEO of the family business; he is impatient and will threaten, blackmail, and hurt anyone who gets in his way

FATHER is the nonchalant, wry-humored patriarch who is dying, with only a month to live, and is humorously trying to avoid coming to terms with his impending death–and any mention of the will, which leaves his children in suspense

MOTHER

MOTHER is the deceased mother of the Pennington children, as well as an ex-Playboy model; a warm and loving figure who helps Char understand that you can feel fulfilled in both life and art even without it having a “greater sense of meaning or purpose”

GIDEON is a fishing-loving country boy and Fitch’s ex, who wants nothing to do with Fitch after he walked out on their relationship. This is a minor role, but its performance requires much sincerity and earnestness.

LISA is Char’s friend and is sleeping with Daniel; she eventually shows him that he has a purpose beyond murder and power.
